Just recently at an assembly at Isaac Fox Elementary School in Lake Zurich, Illinois, a fifth grader, Alex Rasmussen was surprised when he learned he was the first place winner in the elementary division of the national writing competition, InvestWrite!
Congratulations Alex and to your teacher too, Laura Ranieri!
Ms. Raineri said, "Isaac Fox and I are proud and excited to have our students place nationally in the program." She has used the SIFMA Foundation's Stock Market Game program with her math replacement students for the past seven years and has had winning InvestWrite students in the past.
The Stock Market Game program and InvestWrite are offered in Illinois in partnership with Econ Illinois and more than 32,000 students participate in the SMG annually in Illinois. Econ Illinois is the premier provider of economic education programs in Illinois for K-12 schools. The Council helps schools integrate the teaching of economics across all grade levels, preparing students to meet Illinois Learning Standards, and providing them with the fundamental economic concepts and skills needed to understand and succeed in our market economy. A partnership of leaders from business, labor, agriculture, education, and government, Econ Illinois is dedicated to increasing economic literacy in Illinois.
Alex took home a mini-notebook computer while Ms. Ranieri will receive a $750 professional development scholarship and a year long subscription to the Wall Street Journal Classroom Edition for use with her students. Thanks to Alex's winning essay his classmates also won a pizza party. Alex's parents received a plaque recognizing them for their support in helping Alex to succeed and Issac Fox Elementary has a trophy to place among their other awards naming Alex as a national winner!
Be sure to check the InvestWrite website after summer vacation to see the essay questions for the Fall 2011 program!
